In census records and court records there are more children for Robert and Ann PEYTON since the publication of my genealogy book, “PEYTONs Along the Aquia,” where on pages 75 and 76, I gave a glimpse of their history and their one daughter Ann PEYTON. Ann married into the COCHRAN family and it was her son who left a bible record of the COCHRAN descendants of the PEYTONS Along the Aquia.

I am curious if you have any more data about this John Cochran family and where in Alabama this Cochran family was on census data. This is the first that I have heard of this theory that our Thomas Peyton may have been a son of this Robert Peyton. Please contact me at my e-mail address as I’d like to correspond with you further about this family. As you know we have been trying to verify the parents of our Thomas Peyton for a while now.
Sincerely, Jessie Cheek
Jessie, I don’t know where in Alabama that Peyton COCHRAN died, but if he did, there should be some record of him in the census. It is believed that he died about 1831, so if that is correct he should appear in a census of 1830. I know almost nothing about the COCHRANs and what I do know has been published here and is from the Henry Peyton COCHRAN bible.
Yes, we have corresponded quite a bit about your Thomas PEYTON. I wrote to you that I believed he was a possible son of the Robert PEYTON who went to NC from Prince William County, and you replied that you and others did not agree with my research regarding Robert PEYTON. My information about this particular Robert is not new. It has been published since 2002, on the Internet.
My book “PEYTONs Along the Aquia” was published in 2004. I had only one child for Robert and Ann, but have found others since then, some gleaned from information you sent. My Peyton book basically covers the PEYTON family of northern Virginia that I am related to, from the immigrants of early 1600s and their descendants to about 1900. Robert PEYTON was a brother of my ancestor of Prince William County and they were reared just a few miles from where I live. He is very well documented in both Virginia and North Carolina records. There is no mistaking who he was, in my opinion.
