Betty- John Daughtry was a soldier from North Carolina during the War between the States. When he was wounded, the military hospital at Richmond was overflowing and he was sent up to a field hospital in White Hall, Virginia. I think I have a photo posted at Flickr of Garrison’s Store where the hospital was. It is posted under “viafamily”. He met his wife there who was working as a nurse, and the rest is history. John Henry DAUGHTERY was buried in his CSA soldier’s uniform. His wife was a daughter of Sarah Jane VIA. Their homeplace was willed to the three MAUPIN children of their daughter, Sarah. My mother’s first cousin, Ruby VIA, the original DAUGHTRY’s great granddaughter, was born there, when it was still owned by the MAUPINS, including her mother. On the 1880 census John Henry DAUGHTRY listed his parent’s birthplace as North Carolina.
I have this photo of them posted here: The Daughterys. It is not very good resolution. If anyone has a better one that I can post at flickr, I would be happy to do so.
