This is an e-mail I received from Kelli Rea Webb Oregon on 22 June 2006:
I absolutely love the way you designed your family tree, they are so hard to understand sometimes when you are going back back back……
I just wanted to ask you where you obtained your Rhea family information, starting obviously with Anne. To the point I was curious if you have her parents, siblings names.
That is one family, that has so many variations on the line, I am getting confused. Thank you so much for letting me share your family website, you have done such a wonderful wonderful job, it is quite unique.
I am answering here:
There are many, many records of Ann (Rhea) Turk. Ann Turk is recorded in Augusta County, Virginia land records with her husband. Ann was mentioned in his will in Blount County, Tennessee. In 1836, There is a court record of Ann Turk devising her interest in her brother John Rhea's estate to her grandson. Ann Turk and her brother Robert Rhea were deposed in Monroe County, Tennessee court records 1835-1839. She is mentioned in DAR and other Revolutionary War records as wife of patriot Captain Turk.
The Rhea and Rea families of Albemarle County, Virginia appear to be unrelated to each other; the Rheas came to Albemarle/Augusta area of Virginia from the mountains and the Reas were a family of Tidewater origins.
I believe both my mother’s and father’s family have ancestors listed on this wonderful site. On my mother’s side, John S. Rhea, my gggggrandfather,of Augusta County, Va who married Margaret Turk. On my father’s side, Amer Via, whose great granddaughter , Jean Maupin, married Andrew Ray of Albemarle, Va. They were my gggggrandparents. Although I don’t think the Rheas and Rays were related, it’s interesting to see a connection between the families.
Glenna – Thanks for your comments on the Rheas and Reas. I have never heard of a Jean Maupin who married Andrew Ray of Albemarle. Can you please tell me where you found that information?
There was a Jane Maupin who married Samuel Rea of Albemarle, but she was a granddaughter of Amor Via.
I am looking for verification of a James Rea with a son named Starling. Is James Rea’s father John Rhea. James birthday is 1788 in Augusta, Virginia. He died in Dalton, Hopkins, Kentucky 14 Nov 1881. I am also trying to verify who Starlings mother is.
Sincerely,
Janice Melton
Janice Melton,
James Rea is my 6th great grandfather and Starling Rea is my 5th great grandfather. We have not proven James Rea father yet. Starlings wife was Martha Patsy Sisk. Please email me and I will email my information on my Rea line with you.
I am decended from James Rea, see this link

James is the father of Starling Edgar Rea. I haven’t found anything past James and am looking for that. Our family oral history is that we are related to Daniel Rea of Plymouth, MA and Salem, MA which I am trying to link to James of Virginia. Thanks!!!
I have been attempting to follow my heritage back through Virginia. My g – grandfather was Zachariah Ray who was married to Mary Benge and they were in Wilkes County, NC prior to relocating and settle in Garrard County, KY. I believe my Zachariah’s father was Samuel Ray / Rae (not sure of spelling) but that he was from Albemarle County, VA or possibly Westmoreland County, Virginia. The birth of Samuel would have been in or around 1730ish. I have seen reference of material from others showing that he married a Jean Maupin. Any ideas or thoughts, Thanks, Dale
I think their marriage is mentioned in “HISTORY OF ALBEMARLE COUNTY IN VIRGINIA,” page 304; by Reverend Edgar Woods. You may find this book on the Internet. Genealogists list Zachariah as their child, but I have never looked for documentation to know how they come to that. Good Luck. ~~Edna Barney
