“More than a score of knights and baronets had residence in the colony from time to time, and the descendants of the Diggeses, Fairfaxes, Peytons, Skipwiths, and others are among us still.” ~~Reverend Hayden

Hi Edna,
I’m researching my friends lineage. They are Paytons from Stafford County, Virginia. His Great grandfather was Robert T. Payton born about 1825 Stafford. He married Sarah Catlet. During my research I believe I have found Roberts parents and they would be Thomas Peyton born 1788 Stafford VA who married Sarah Maddox. There are so many family trees out there that are confusing to say the least. I have the “Virginia Genealogies” which I plan on giving my friend if his lineage is from these Peytons. So many records where lost or damaged by fire. I have found an 1820 census that names just the heads of family but they is a James Payton, Charles Payton, and a Thomas Payton. I believe that Thomas born 1788 father may have been a Charles Peyton born 1761 in Stafford. If you can shine a light on any of this it would be greatly appreciated. Can you still buy your first book? If I’m on the right track I’d like to buy both volumes. Oh, I’m on Facebook also. I hope your email answer doesn’t get bumped back from me! Thank you for your time, Linda Pike Price
Linda, this family of Robert T. Peyton is included in “Peytons Along the Aquia – Second Edition,” on pages 142, 143. The 2004 Version is no longer available, however this “Second Edition” contains everything in my first Peyton book and more newly found information.
